Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  • Coordinating the team to ensure a smooth shopping experience for customers
  • Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, and making decisions that prioritize safety and customer satisfaction
  • Serving as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to foster an inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Prioritizing the replenishment of key products
  • Maintaining accurate point of sale and shelf edge labels
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks efficiently
  • Understanding store operations and implementing improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Delivering effective communication within the team
  • Suggesting operational improvements to the Store Manager
  • Putting the customer first in all actions and resolving queries with a positive attitude
  • Adjusting service to meet individual customer needs
  • Recognizing colleagues who deliver excellent service
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to service delivery
  • Resolving colleague queries or escalating as needed
  • Ensuring adequate staffing, including managing short-term absences
  • Being a Keyholder responsible for store security and attending alarm call-outs
  • Managing internal communications and ensuring timely action on messages
  • Balancing service and replenishment duties
  • Supporting absence management and conducting return-to-work interviews
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners for timely issue escalation and coaching opportunities
  • If applicable, managing day-to-day Post Office operations, including passing background checks
