Job description

Chemical Process Safety Engineer

Wigan

Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm

£70,000 DOE

My client, a leading manufacturer within their field, is seeking an experienced Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join their team.

Requirements:

1. Minimum of 5 years relevant senior experience
2. Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline
3. Proficiency in process operations
4. Experience leading safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA)
5. DSEAR risk assessment experience
6. Knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, and latest risk assessment techniques, along with other applicable health and safety legislation
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
8. Ability to work independently and in a team
9. Self-driven with the ability to multitask
10. Positive outlook and clear focus
11. Proficiency in process safety and loss prevention areas such as HAZOP, PHA
12. Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
13. Knowledge of relevant H&S and Environmental legislation
14. Understanding of safety fundamentals

Responsibilities:

1. Produce technical safety and process engineering deliverables
2. Develop safety philosophies, HSE plans, and safety specifications
3. Lead and participate in process safety assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL studies), generate reports, and manage actions
4. Input to project design assurance reviews (P&ID, constructability reviews)
5. Conduct hazardous area classification according to industry codes
6. Develop and implement functional safety management plans
7. Review specifications, data sheets, schedules, and calculations for quality and compliance
8. Provide technical support to projects and sites
9. Stay informed on regulatory, legislative, and industry developments
10. Apply knowledge of process safety, environmental engineering, software, and design practices during all project phases
11. Maintain awareness of international codes and standards
