Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Technical Author on an inside IR35 contract basis. The position will be based in London. For further information about this position, please apply.

Within the Employee Affairs Unit, specifically in relation to the delivery of the Silver Book project, we are seeking a Technical Author to provide editorial support in terms of language, grammar, syntax, and style.

The role is crucial in ensuring the Silver Book contents offer seamless guidance to users. As part of the Silver Book project team, the Technical Author will report to the project lead and EAU Operations Manager. The role involves supporting the EAU Operations Manager and the Production Coordinator, and working closely with all project teams assembling content.

The responsibilities include providing style guidance, advising on language, grammar, syntax, editing Silver Book contents, and collaborating with content teams through sprints to address specific themes or chapters. The role also involves supporting the EAU Operations Manager and the Production Coordinator by highlighting project risks, issues, and opportunities, and ensuring proactive, collaborative problem-solving.

Contextual Information

The focus is on delivering the SZC Silver Book contents and recommendations for their implementation, supporting agile sprints delivered by subject matter experts from various backgrounds, both internal and external to the SZC project.

Key Stakeholders and Relationships

The post holder will collaborate with stakeholders including:

  • External Stakeholders such as Trade Union Representatives
  • SZC Silver Book Project teams
  • Silver Book Project Lead
  • Silver Book Production Coordinator

Dimensions

  • This role is for 1 Technical Author.
  • The post holder will be based at Sizewell C but may need to travel to other UK locations.
  • The role does not include line management but involves coaching project team members in process improvement techniques like Agile.
  • This is a temporary role, active only during the Silver Book Implementation project.

Principal Accountabilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the EAU Operations Manager in delivering the Silver Book contents.
  • Developing a system for sharing best practices and lessons learned among content teams.
  • Alerting the Production Coordinator to project risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Providing style guides and guidance in written or verbal form.
  • Supporting project sponsors in delivering Silver Book contents.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • Degree-level education or equivalent, with membership of an appropriate professional body.
  • Proactive, able to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Ability to challenge assumptions and improve processes.
  • Facilitation skills.
  • Certification in Technical Writing or equivalent (e.g., Business or Technical Writing, Certified Professional Technical Communicator).

Desirable

  • Verbal communication skills within a business environment.
  • Experience working within a Major Programme environment.
  • Experience providing editorial support in HR contexts.
