About the role

Venus Wines & Spirit Merchants is a leading specialist drink wholesaler to the on-trade. Following our recent acquisition by Booker Group, and as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are looking to the future with an exciting growth plan that will positively impact the UK hospitality trade.

In the coming year, we are opening new depots to serve more customers and enhance our delivery capabilities, building on our reputation for excellent service and a market-leading range of over three thousand products. We also aim to attract outstanding talent to ensure continuous improvement in our customer proposition.

For the Commercial Development Manager position, we seek a highly organized, commercially savvy, and ambitious individual to join our team. The role involves supporting our Head of Sales, collaborating with the sales team and colleagues across the Booker Group to identify and communicate commercial opportunities, and ensuring Venus delivers industry-leading service.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Analyze internal sales data to identify gap sales and margin improvement opportunities for the sales team.
  2. Maintain updated information on customer performance versus contracted terms to protect and grow key accounts.
  3. Utilize industry data and intelligence such as CGA, Propel, and competitor pricing to identify and present new business and margin opportunities to sales and leadership teams.
  4. Prepare and distribute the monthly sales pack to the leadership team.
  5. Consolidate key information for the new business pipeline and report weekly to assist resource planning.
  6. Monitor and report on the exchange of drink and non-drink leads between Venus and Booker sales teams to achieve distribution and revenue KPIs.
  7. Coordinate joint activations with key suppliers to drive new business and margin improvements.
  8. Develop and communicate the trade promotion plan to the sales team to encourage growth.
  9. Identify opportunities to drive sales to marketplace fulfillment partners.
Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Commercial experience in the drinks industry with P&L responsibility, preferably in wholesale.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM reporting software and data analysis tools like Tableau.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders and customers positively.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel for customer meetings and industry events.
