At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Drug Discovery team for an experienced Scientist to enhance our capabilities in therapeutic antibody discovery.

About CRUK Drug Discovery

As the world's largest medical research charity, we've helped bring eleven new cancer drugs to market. We aim to bring more effective treatments to patients faster through our new Cancer Research Horizons (CRH), which consolidates our drug discovery efforts and leverages our academic and technological networks to innovate in cancer treatment.

Based in Cambridge, Glasgow, London, and Newcastle, CRH employs ~200 staff from diverse backgrounds. In this lab-based role, you will use biochemical and cell-based high throughput screening technologies to develop and execute assays within the Antibody Discovery team. Experience with developing assays to identify early-stage drug candidates, especially antibodies, is essential.

We offer an inclusive environment that fosters creativity, technological innovation, and scientific excellence, encouraging our colleagues to attend conferences, present posters, and publish papers.

What will I be doing?
  • Developing and executing high throughput screening assays for therapeutic antibody identification and characterization.
  • Contributing to project progress within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Using biochemical and cell-based assays to determine functional properties of antibodies (e.g., IC50, EC50).
  • Working with various assay formats, detection technologies, and automation to maximize efficiency.
  • Maintaining technical expertise in assays development and antibody discovery.
  • Recording, tracking, and presenting data in team meetings.
What skills will I need?
  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of biochemical and cell-based HTS technologies used in pre-clinical antibody discovery.
  • Experience developing and running high throughput cell-based assays, preferably for antibodies.
  • Proficiency with assay formats and detection technologies such as flow cytometry, high content imaging, ELISA, MSD, and HTRF.
  • Experience with laboratory automation solutions (e.g., Viaflo, Hamilton, HighRes) is highly desirable.
  • Proactive attitude, ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt.
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills.
  • Interest in scientific innovation and capability development.
