Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Pick up and deliver trailers between Service Centers and/or turn-point locations via tractor-trailer combinations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable).
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
4. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
5. Maintain accurate daily logs.
6. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
7. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch (e.g., delays, arrivals, equipment problems).
8. May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires.
9. May be required to perform duties of a city driver or dock employee when operationally necessary.
10. Load and unload freight as required.
11. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations and company policies/procedures.
12. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
2. Must have at least 1 year of experience within the last 3 years or have completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
3. Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
4. Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
5. Operate Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) in specified states, meeting qualification standards.
6. Basic communication skills (written and verbal).
7. Ability to hook-up and break down sets of trailers requiring about 100 pounds lift, multiple times daily.
8. Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of truck.
9. Follow instructions and complete training.
10. Work independently and as part of a team.
11. Demonstrate initiative and motivation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Drive long distances day/night on various roads and weather conditions.
2. Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials under DOT regulations.
3. Hours may vary; overnight stays may be required.
4. Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer.
