Lead Structural Analysis Engineer
Our client is at the forefront of innovative Marine engineering, specialising in the design, optimisation, and supply of decarbonisation solutions for the maritime industry. With expertise in wing propulsion, foiling, and flight control systems, they lead the sustainability revolution within the maritime and shipping industry. Their technologies aim to reduce fuel consumption and enable marine electrification through sail technology, advanced efficiency methods, and FOSS solutions.
They are seeking a Lead Structural Analysis Engineer to join their team, leading structural analysis for major projects and supporting the Head of Engineering in developing the structures team and innovative processes. You will also work alongside the Head of Innovation and Engineering Development to develop new methodologies and tools.
Responsibilities:
- Derive load cases and targets based on first principles, customer requirements, legislation, and internal documentation.
- Create and run stress analysis simulations within NX SimCentre, building models from scratch and selecting appropriate analysis techniques.
- Support design work within an integrated, multi-disciplinary team to ensure structural solutions meet static and dynamic load requirements.
- Provide expertise on system behaviour, load paths, structural responses, and potential failure modes.
- Perform hand calculations for fixings, inserts, and bonded joints.
- Analyze simulation results and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Support correlation activities with physical testing, calibration, and validation.
- Communicate with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, and internal stakeholders.
- Follow analysis procedures and document results clearly for internal and legislative review.
- Assist in leading and developing the structures team, planning resources with management.
- Collaborate on developing new methodologies and tools to improve analysis capabilities.
- Extend analysis expertise in areas such as structures, thermal, composites, bonded joints, and contact analysis.
- Design and optimize workflows, processes, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality.
- Implement tools to streamline tasks, improve productivity, and support the team’s technical needs.
- Evaluate and recommend upgrades or new tools, ensuring effective integration and training.
- Manage multiple projects, track progress, and communicate key risks and issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, contributing to high-level problem-solving and decision-making.
- Participate in technical reviews to ensure quality and reliability.
- Manage external CAE resources in coordination with line management.
Requirements:
- A degree in mechanical, automotive, marine, or aerospace engineering.
- Extensive experience in stress simulation, including implicit, fatigue, linear, and non-linear analysis.
- Proficiency in Siemens SimCentre is essential.
- Experience with metallic structures is required; experience with composites is advantageous.
- Knowledge of TeamCenter and Siemens NX is beneficial.
- Experience with FEM in shell and solid structures.
- Strong background in hand calculations and creating calculation sheets.
- Practical experience with physical testing and correlation.
- Experience in mentoring junior engineers is desirable.
