Entry Level Materials Testing Technician

Summary

John Turner Consulting, Inc. (JTC) is seeking Entry Level Materials Testing Technicians to join our engineering team in support of our Connecticut Department of Transportation projects. Candidates should have excellent attention to detail, the ability to read construction plans, accurately document findings, and communicate effectively with clients. This full-time role offers competitive pay based on experience and involves field testing of soils and concrete. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of passing certification exams after training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform soils and aggregate lab and field testing, sample collection, and concrete inspection at fabrication plants.
• Conduct inspections to ensure construction elements meet applicable standards and codes.
• Interpret regulations, codes, and standards relevant to daily testing and inspections.
• Compile and submit inspection reports daily.
• Perform additional testing and inspection as needed.
• Lifting required: 60 to 80 lbs.
• Basic math, writing, and communication skills required.

Requirements

• 0 to 2 years of experience preferred.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently on multiple tasks.
• Positive attitude, self-motivated, responsible.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends if necessary.
• Dependable transportation with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Construction-related experience is a plus.

We will provide training in soils, concrete, and asphalt testing.
