JAB Recruitment is currently looking to recruit an Economist on behalf of our Oil and Gas Operator client. This is a PAYE position to cover maternity leave, with a project end-date of August 2026.This role will support the evaluation of growth and business opportunities across our UK business.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver economic evaluations to support investment decisions across the UK, with potential support for Africa operations.
• Conduct analysis for:
• Exploration, development, and brownfield projects
• Strategic options and commercial evaluations
• Present economic findings to Joint Venture partners.
• Contribute to project Gate Reviews, including preparation of Gate documentation.
• Support strategic business processes, including:
• Project PAFs
• Strategic Plan
• Impairment and reserves reviews
• Participate in Peer Reviews and identify when Economics Peer Assist is needed.
• Conduct economic lookbacks on major expenditures to assess value added and capital efficiency.
• Support other ad hoc economic analysis projects as required.

Required Experience & Skills

• Proven experience as a Petroleum Economist, with a specific focus on UK economic evaluations.

Strong exposure to:

• Geoscience (G&G)
• Expert knowledge of the UK oil & gas fiscal regime.
• Demonstrated ability in economic modelling, including reviewing others’ models.
• Strong Excel skills and presentation capabilities.
• Experience in supporting commercial analysis through economic evaluation.
• Experience working as the Economist within a project evaluation team.
