A leading company in Ipswich is seeking an Import/Export Clerk to join their team. The role involves tracking shipments, liaising with clients and importers, and preparing necessary import documentation. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, relevant experience, and a keen attention to detail. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service.
Our Ipswich based client is looking for an Import/Export Clerk with a minimum of 1 years experience.
Responsibilities
• Work as part of a team reporting to Supervisors or Manager.
• Tracking of all shipments on a daily basis.
• Liaising with importers and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory
information for the preparation of import entries.
• Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s) extracting data as
necessary to prepare import CDS declarations for our Customs department.
• Aiding clients on the classification of goods and their importance.
• Utilising specialised shipping software such as CNS and Destin8.
• Liaising with Shipping Lines for carrier haulage bookings
• Dealing with the company s approved merchant hauliers and warehouses to
arrange haulage and/or unpacking of containers.
• Liaising with overseas agents for the receipt of pre-alerts and reporting back of
cargo delivery status.
• Knowledge of necessary import documentation, EUR1 s, Certificates of Origin
(CofO), CHED s, COI s and other cargo control documents.
• Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks,
goods quarantine etc.
• Monitoring of group inboxes and distributing information and new jobs accurately
and in a timely manner
• Ensuring the highest standards of customer service at all times.
• Completion of spreadsheets for reporting internally and also to clients.
• Data accuracy in filling in details of the consignments.
Essential
• Minimum 1 year of relevant industry experience
• Recognised pass rate for GCSE in Maths and English.
• Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
• Ability to operate Microsoft packages and learn new systems easily.
• Ability to operate software that is standard within the industry.
• Numerical and analytical skills, paying attention to detail.
• Self-motivating and be able to organise your work effectively and maintain records.
• Excellent administration skills.
• Working experience of CNS and Destin8 systems
• An understanding of Incoterms and container types
• Although you will work as part of a team, you need to be self-motivating and be able to
organise your work effectively and maintain records.
• Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring shipment requirements are actioned in a
complaint and timely manner.
Desirable
• Demonstrate experience within an operational Deepsea Operations environment,
• Demonstrate experience of deep sea import shipments from various origins.
• Have a deep understanding of Incoterms and Shipper/Consignee responsibilities
• Ability to raise IPAFFS notifications
• Educated to A-Level / Degree level desired but not essential.
• Customer focused, both internally with colleagues and externally with clients
• Complex problem solving and the ability to engage critical thinking skills will be
required as well as the ability to actively listen and interpret concisely.
