This role is for EO (civil service grade) or Band 6 (NERC scale). Salary: £37,405 – £39,694. It is a 24-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension or secondment. Hybrid working is anticipated across multiple locations within the 32 organisations of the NRO. The position is part-time at 50% FTE. The closing date for applications is Friday, 30th May 2025. The UK’s research and innovation landscape is evolving, and this role offers an opportunity to be part of shaping its future. You will work at the heart of national science policy, supporting strategic collaboration among research institutions and government. The position involves connecting science, policy, and society through the work of the National Research Organisations (NRO).
The NRO is a new group representing the UK’s research institutions, delivering world-class science for national and international benefit. It aims to enhance the research landscape by working with government to make UK research more sustainable and accessible, supporting evidence-based policy. The NRO is supported by the Science Minister and collaborates with DSIT to achieve its goals, fostering relationships across government departments to promote coherent and efficient research efforts for long-term sustainability.
The role involves supporting collaboration among NRO Directors, Chief Science Advisors, and civil servants. Working closely with the Head of NRO Secretariat, you will help achieve short-term goals such as:
Key activities include organizing NRO meetings, coordinating attendance, managing communications, developing website content, supporting strategy and policy development, and preparing briefing documents for stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be confident in engaging with senior stakeholders. A proactive attitude and experience with Microsoft Office and Teams are essential; experience with Drupal is desirable.
