Head of Commercial Services Law

Location: Offices located across the East of England

Overview of the Head of Service (Commercial Law) role:

Sellick Partnership is partnering with a highly regarded public sector client to recruit a Head of Service within Commercial Law. This role is ideal for a qualified Solicitor/Lawyer to join the Senior Leadership Team, leading a respected commercial law team serving public sector clients, and involved in business strategy and client development. The role offers hybrid working with office presence twice a week, with flexible office location options across the East of England.

The successful candidate will support the Executive Director and colleagues by managing team performance, financial compliance, and practice management. Deputising for the Executive Director may be required. This is an excellent opportunity to lead from the top, influence organizational direction, mentor upcoming lawyers, and develop your career in a senior management capacity.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Commercial Law team, supporting fee earners, and maintaining client relationships.
  • Addressing challenges within the service.
  • Providing high-quality legal advice to clients, elected members, and senior officers.
  • Handling complex contracts and procurement law caseloads efficiently.
  • Leading and supporting legal staff, ensuring excellent client care.
  • Developing existing business relationships and seeking new clients through marketing and promotion.

  • Confident, client-focused communicator with subject matter expertise and mentoring skills.

Minimum requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor/Lawyer in England or Wales or a member of the BAR with pupillage completed.
  • Legal expertise in both contentious and non-contentious contract and procurement law.
  • Leadership and management experience.
