Job Purpose:

This role reports to the Formulation Development Manager and will be required to provide support for the three key areas; Clinical Manufacturing, development of new formulations and providing assistance within the Formulation Laboratory. The ideal candidate will therefore have a pharmaceutical background and have ideally gained experience within a cGMP, FDA and MHRA regulated environment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Work as part of a team to design formulations and manufacturing processes for encapsulated drug products to meet the required target product profile
• Communicate effectively with the customer/client and internal project teams
• Plan, design, conduct and report relevant experiments/investigations to meet project timelines
• Provide training and support, guidance and development for less experienced team members
• Analyse and report data accurately in a clear and concise manner: suggested conclusions and recommendations
• Compilation of customer/client protocols and project reports to a high standard where required.
• Small scale manufacture of technical and clinical batches to GMP standards
• Support process development and the transfer formulations to commercial manufacture
• Provide support to Manufacturing e.g. troubleshooting, process optimisation

Specific Job Skills:

Required:

• A BSc similar educational level in Pharmaceutical sciences or a Chemistry based subject
• Direct experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
• Experienced in oral formulation, preferably with soft gel or liquid fill hard shell
• Able to demonstrate previous success in R&D projects from concept to completion and understands the technical issues involved with drug development and preferably drug delivery
• Able to communicate well via written media with specific emphasis on report writing
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• 2+ years direct technical experience of formulation and drug delivery within the industry
• Experience of product development within a pharmaceutical environment
• Experience with lipid based formulations and / or bioavailability enhancement technologies
• Have a broad knowledge with and experience of working within a cGMP/GLP environment

Computer skills: Must be competent in the use of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word,
e-mail and internet;

Literacy and Numeracy: Must be competent in writing reports both for internal use and for clients/customers. Must be competent in the interpretation of analytical data.

Business Presentation Skills : Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator.

Management Skills : Must be skilled in leading/ training/guiding/mentoring others
