About the role

A mainstream primary school in Bristol is looking for an experienced teaching assistant or learning support assistant to join their team as a Behaviour Mentor. The role involves working 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who displays challenging and anti-social behaviour.

Details
  • £17.75 per hour – PAYE, including holiday pay
  • 20 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday, 08.30 – 12.30
  • Location: Bedminster, easily accessible by public transport
  • Ongoing assignment likely to continue into the next school year
About the behaviour mentor role
  • Working 1:1 with a Year 5 child with diagnosed social, emotional, and mental health needs, Autism, and ADHD
  • Supporting and monitoring the pupil during movement breaks and breaktimes outside the classroom with a small group of peers
  • Delivering specific interventions tailored to the student’s needs and goals
  • Building a strong and meaningful relationship with the pupil, ideally sharing an interest in sports such as boxing, martial arts, rugby, football, or swimming
Ideal candidate
  • Previous experience working with young people facing behavioural and emotional challenges (e.g., teaching assistant, sports coach, babysitter, nanny)
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs
  • Resilient and confident in managing challenging behaviour, including verbal and physical dysregulation
