At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.

We're looking for qualified fitters to operate as multi-skilled, flexible workers to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency within the department.

Successful applicants will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:

  1. Percussion riveting
  2. Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
  3. Setting structures in build jigs
  4. Deburring of structures
  5. Fettling using approved setting tools
  6. Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
  7. Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
  8. Part Marking + Identifying
How You'll Contribute
  • Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)

Essential:

  • Must have a recognised indentured apprenticeship
  • Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures

Desirable:

  • Previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
