Reporting to the Integration Manager in Stage 1, the EHS Controller is responsible for ensuring safety and environmental health at the workplace. The role involves promoting EHS topics across all levels of the organization, from shop floor staff to senior management.

Accountabilities

Protect the safety of all personnel and asset users.

Prepare and deliver effective EHS governance.

Main Activities

Support the Production Manager in implementing Airbus EHS policies and procedures, including:

  • Risk assessment, reduction, and review plans.
  • EHS training plans.
  • Local Emergency Management Plans.

Serve as the initial contact for all EHS issues, such as inductions, visitors, insurers, and enforcement agencies.

Organisation

Coordinate regular reviews to ensure EHS roles and responsibilities are effectively assigned.

Assist local management with risk assessments and controls, including those related to maintenance activities.

Maintain risk registers and reduction plans.

Legislation

Ensure compliance with UK legislation, Airbus policies, and other relevant standards. Anticipate legislative changes and prepare the department accordingly.

Objectives and Targets

Develop relevant performance indicators, monitor, and deploy KPIs through visual management.

Competence and Culture

Support management in ensuring employee competence and foster a 'safety first' and product safety culture. Collaborate with Trade Union Safety Representatives.

Communication

Facilitate effective communication on EHS matters, prepare monthly content, and deliver Toolbox Talks. Brief stakeholders on process changes and safety issues.

Emergency

Coordinate reviews and testing of emergency procedures.

Audit

Act as the point of contact for EHS audits, coordinate responses, and ensure remedial actions are completed.

Records

Maintain statutory and local EHS records.

Governance

Develop and facilitate governance processes, including reporting and management reviews. Engage employees and stakeholders in EHS governance.

Improvement

Stay updated on best practices, investigate incidents, and develop safety culture assessments and improvement plans. Represent Broughton in company-wide EHS topics.

General

Support EHS maturity and cooperate with the EHS team on strategy, policy, and reporting. Attend steering group meetings and provide relevant data.

Competencies & Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
  • Knowledge of legislation and best practices
  • Teamwork and initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases

Experience:

  • At least two years in a health and safety role
  • At least three years in manufacturing

Character:

  • Empathetic, supportive, reliable, and conscientious
  • Ability to challenge diplomatically and pursue professional development

Desirable/Essential:

  • Experience in environment work, IEMA, NEBOSH Environmental/Health & Safety Diploma, or equivalent
  • Proven presentation skills and training in specialized EHS topics
  • Knowledge of methodologies like HAZOP, FMEA
  • Risk assessment coaching capability
