A leading aerospace company is seeking an EHS Controller to ensure workplace safety and compliance. This role involves promoting EHS topics, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating improvement plans across the organization. Candidates should have a NEBOSH Certificate and relevant experience in health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
Subject to the successful closing of the transaction with Spirit, after obtaining relevant regulatory approvals
Reporting to the Integration Manager in Stage 1, the EHS Controller is responsible for helping discharge the accountability for keeping people safe. The EHS Controller will promote Environment and Health & Safety topics at the workplace throughout the organisation at all levels (shop floor staff to senior management).
Protect the safety of all personnel and asset users.
Preparing and delivering effective EHS governance
To act on behalf of the Production Manager to support, facilitate and carry out activity to secure the rigorous implementation of Airbus EHS policy and procedures.
To assist the Production Manager in preparing and implementing plans that meet the requirements of EHS Policy and the EHS team, including:
Risk assessment, risk reduction and risk review plans.
EHS training plans.
Local Emergency Management Plans.
Provide the initial point of contact within the business for all EHS issues such as induction, visitors, insurers and enforcement agencies
Organisation
Coordinate regular review of the organisation to ensure EHS roles and responsibilities are effectively deployed.
Support local management in the provision of suitable and sufficient risk assessment and control. Including risk management associated with the dynamic nature of maintenance activities.
Maintain risk register and risk reduction plan.
Legislation
Monitor and ensure legislative compliance (UK legislation, Airbus EHS policies, codes of practice, procedures, core EHS-UK team mandates etc).
Anticipate legislative changes and prepare the Industrial Maintenance department for compliance.
Objectives and Targets
Ensure performance indicators are relevant and effective.
Compile and maintain performance indicators.
Deploy appropriate KPIs through the visual management process.
Competence and Culture
Support local management in ensuring employee safety through competence management.
Engage specialist support to provide technical competence to deliver a safe system of work and safe industrial means.
Drive a ‘safety first’ culture in the team and be a ‘champion for safety’.
Drive a product safety culture in the team and be a champion for product safety.
Work in partnership with and stakeholder Trade Union Safety Representatives.
Communication
To facilitate effective communication of EHS matters through the local management structure.
Prepare monthly EHS content for the Face to Face pack.
Develop and deliver Tool Box Talks to maintain awareness of EHS issues.
Brief local management, TU Safety Representatives and other stakeholders on EHS process changes and product safety matters.
Emergency
Coordinate regular reviews of emergency procedures.
Test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.
Audit
Act as focal point for EHS audit (internal process confirmation, EHS team and third party audit, authorities audit).
Coordinate response to any audit findings and manage timely completion of remedial actions.
Records
To compile and maintain all necessary statutory records and other local EHS data as required.
Governance
Develop, manage and facilitate an effective governance process including reporting, management review for EHS and FOD
Facilitate employee engagement in EHS governance including regular reviews with the Trade Union Safety Representatives.
Improvement
Maintain awareness of best practice and guidance and ensure appropriate deployment into improvement plans.
Investigate any work related incidents to provide effective countermeasures (hazardous conditions, near misses, accidents and environmental breaches).
Develop a safety culture assessment and improvement process.
Represent Broughton in any company wide EHS related topics.
General
Support and delivery the governance and actions necessary to maintain AOS maturity A for EHS
The role functionally reports to the EHS team on environment, health and safety matters, including professional development needs.
To cooperate with and seek direction and advice from the EHS team on matters of EHS strategy, policy, process and method, as necessary.
To attend and support regular steering group meetings with the EHS team.
To liaise with the EHS team and provide data, information and reports as required by the EHS team.
Qualifications:
NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
Good working knowledge of applicable legislation guidance and best practice.
Ability to work in a team and on own initiative.
Proven communications skills.
Ability to write clear, concise, plain English documentation to a high standard.
Ability to produce suitable and sufficient risk assessments that appropriately balance cost and risk.
A good understanding of Microsoft Office software and the use of databases.
Record of achievement and delivery within EHS environment.
Experience:
Minimum of two years working in a health and safety role.
Minimum of three years working in a manufacturing environment.
Working within the framework of formal Environment, Health and Safety management systems including: Risk assessment and the identification/deployment of effective controls and; Accident investigation, the identification of root causes and the implementation of remedial actions and; Standard Operating Procedures.
Character:

A reliable, conscientious ‘completer / finisher’ who takes pride in adding value for the customer.

Evidence of training and experience in specialised EHS topic or specialist risk assessment
Methodologies such as: HAZOP, FMEA, etc
