Art and Design & Technology Technician (Full-Time, Temporary)

Kings Heath, Birmingham

£90 - £115 per day

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience required for this position is experience in a similar position and referenceable experience within the last 5 years.

Are you an experienced Art and Design & Technology Technician looking for a long-term role in a creative and forward-thinking secondary school?

The School and Role

ABC Teachers are currently recruiting for a reliable and knowledgeable Art / DT Technician to join a welcoming secondary school in King’s Heath from September 2025. This is a long-term supply position, expected to continue until the end of the academic year (July 2026).

This thriving secondary school in King’s Heath is well-regarded for its creative arts and technical education. With a supportive leadership team, a strong focus on student achievement, and modern facilities, the school offers an inspiring and inclusive environment for both staff and students. The DT and Art departments are popular and well-equipped, and the school values practical learning as a key part of the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials and equipment for practical Art and DT lessons
  • Maintain and organise tools, machinery, and resources in a safe and efficient manner
  • Assist teaching staff during practical sessions
  • Support students with projects, ensuring health and safety guidelines are followed
  • Conduct regular maintenance and safety checks on equipment
  • Manage stock levels and place orders when needed

Requirements

The successful Technician will have;

  • Previous experience working as a technician in a school environment (essential)
  • Knowledge of Art and Design & Technology tools, processes, and materials
  • A good understanding of health and safety procedures in a school workshop/studio setting
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting staff and students
  • Ability to obtain suitable references, a valid DBS Check and hold the Right to Work in the UK (ABC Teachers do not offer sponsorship)
  • All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
