Cloud Infrastructure Architect

Employment Type: Full-time
Working hours: 35 hours per week. Where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns. Please let us know in your application your desired working pattern
Reporting to: Chief Architect
Salary: London salary from £78,925 - £85,000 (dependent on experience ) , Manchester salary from £71,750 - £77,000 (dependent on experience).
Location: London docklands (Hybrid) or Manchester (Hybrid). Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

The Financial Ombudsman Service has been resolving customer complaints since 2001. Our service is free for consumers to use and over 1 million people contact us every year. The last few years have seen the Financial Ombudsman Service embark on an organisation-wide transformation journey.
With the customer at the heart of everything we do, we have already delivered significant improvements in the service we offer and 2025 will see us continue with our ambitious transformation agenda.
Last year we welcomed our new CTO and this year will see him launch the new IT strategy for the department. With the move to cloud computing in 2023 and the ever-changing technology landscape, it is a very exciting time to be joining the Technology team here at the Financial Ombudsman Service.
As part of the Ombudsman’s cloud strategy the Infrastructure Architect role strongly focusses on cloud-based services and requires significant knowledge and experience in cloud-based technologies. Although we are a cloud-first organisation, there remains a need for on-prem services to cater for specific needs and to support our office buildings.
The role will work closely with peers in the Architecture Team, Infrastructure Team, Product Owners, Technology owners, Information Security, Data Protection, Service Delivery and business leaders to understand both current requirements and future needs of the organisation – with the aim to deliver a secure and protected environment for our customers.
Key responsibilities
Design automation frameworks to ensure the correct and consistent delivery of infrastructure components and configuration.
Introducing industry relevant standards and principles to steer designs into a single considered infrastructure architecture across the enterprise.
Work with the appropriate IT and business teams to plan the implementation of infrastructure solutions.
Provide training and support to IT teams and other departments, acting as an infrastructure technologies subject matter expert.
Creation of high-level design and low-level specification for technology change
Improved collaboration between IT, cyber, business, engineers, domain architects, and management
Representing architecture in formal governance forums – Design Authority, Change Advisory Board
Forming the organisation’s Infrastructure Architecture including security controls
Working within a distributed architecture team, delivering high quality artefacts relating to the delivery of both component and system wide architectures

Providing technical expertise to the Technical Design Authority, Hot house and change advisory board groups.
Determining appropriate methods for effective Disaster Recovery at the infrastructure layer
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
Minimum Criteria
Hands on experience and strong knowledge of: Cloud platforms and services (Azure, AWS)
HA and DR concepts and design across
Automation CI/CD methodology – Ansible, BICEP, ARM, terraform
VMWare vSphere & SaaS Service Integration
Significant experience in principal core infrastructure design role
Strong experience with on-premises infrastructure technologies.
Strong experience with public and hybrid cloud methodologies
