The Defence Infrastructure Cost Centre provides support to projects that range in complexity and size with our service offerings spanning across Programme and Project Management, Project Planning, Cost Engineering, Risk Management, and Commercial Disciplines.

We provide support to the full project lifecycle both pre-contract and post contract, delivering infrastructure projects on behalf of our clients, that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £200M.

We are actively looking to expand the team due to client requirements and have talented individuals join us who will support our Defence client portfolio, whilst further developing their career, working on a range of complex and challenging commissions.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk Professional to join the Defence North team, supporting our clients in Project Risk Management across infrastructure projects and programmes in the North of the UK, including Midlands, Cumbria, North East, and Scotland, with opportunities across the UK. The team comprises over 40 members, based mainly in Manchester, with others in Nottingham, Leeds, Barrow, and Glasgow.

This role requires Risk Professionals with experience in project or programme environments within Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure, or Construction industries. Knowledge of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is advantageous.

As part of our consultancy environment, you'll work closely with clients, taking ownership of engagements and aiming to exceed expectations. Expect up to 60% of your time on client sites or at Turner & Townsend offices, with flexibility based on needs.

Main Purpose of Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Risk Identification & Assessment: Conduct risk workshops to identify threats and opportunities; analyze potential threats and evaluate impacts on project scope and objectives.
• Strategic Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to minimize disruptions and stabilize projects.
• Risk Register & Reporting: Maintain risk registers; produce and present risk reports to facilitate communication and decision-making.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with project managers, clients, and leadership to align risk strategies with business goals.
• Data-Driven Decision Making: Use risk analysis tools and QRA to assess project exposure and inform contingency planning.
• Process and Procedure: Produce risk and opportunity management plans aligned with business standards.
• Risk Workshops & Training: Lead sessions to promote risk awareness and proactive management culture.

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Experience in project/programme environments within Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure, or Construction sectors.
• Expertise in risk management frameworks aligned with ISO31000, ensuring integrated risk solutions across portfolios, programmes, and projects.

• Experience with risk management software such as ARM, @Risk, Safran, Primavera Risk Analysis, etc.
• Ability to conduct Quantitative Risk Analysis and generate insightful reports.
• Strong understanding of project controls disciplines like cost management, scheduling, and change management.

Desirable

• Familiarity with project life cycles in relevant industries (e.g., RIBA, GRIP).
• Relevant qualifications such as APM Risk Management, IRM certifications, etc.

Work Environment & Security
