About The Role
Hippo is recruiting for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Hippo Herd. Our Senior Data Engineers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain user-centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to build solutions that make data accessible, enabling solutions to be optimized through an evidence-based approach. Engaging with clients, you will design and implement data solutions, ensuring they are integrated with internal systems and business processes.

Your role in a nutshell:

• Act as an SME within the Hippo squad to lead, design, and implement data solutions that meet business requirements.
• Help architects realize data system designs such as Meshes, Warehouses, and Event-based systems.
• Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics, and business intelligence (BI) systems.
• Re-engineer, develop, and optimize code to ensure processes perform efficiently.
• Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders.
• Share best practices within the Hippo community to maintain high standards.
• Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of other engineers and support the professional development of colleagues.
• Promote Hippo’s Engineering Herd internally and externally (e.g., through blogs, workshops, seminars, or conferences).

About The Candidate:

• Proven experience with Snowflake, Python, dbt, AWS, and Terraform.
• Proficiency in R, Bash, Java/.NET, and/or PowerShell is desirable.
• Broad knowledge of cloud architectures, networking, and distributed computing systems.
• Experience designing data systems such as Data Lakes, Data Meshes, and Data Warehouses.
• Experience working with various data sources, including SQL, NoSQL, and Graph databases.
• A track record of infrastructure delivery on data platforms like Snowflake, Elastic, Redshift, Data Bricks, Splunk, etc.
• Strong skills in writing regular expressions and JSON parsing.
• Experience in log processing tools such as Cribl, Splunk, Elastic, Apache NiFi.
• Ability to produce dashboards and deliver insights effectively.
• Understanding of security best practices (OAuth, MFA, TLS, etc.).
• Experience processing large datasets.
• Solid understanding of data modeling and normalization concepts.
• Good estimation skills for time, latency, and costs.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams is desirable.
• Strong teamwork, presentation skills, and experience mentoring colleagues.
