Job description

This is a 12 month contract, with an immediate start. The role will be based at our R&D site in Milton Park, Oxfordshire.

Position Overview:
We are seeking to recruit a support scientist to work across the Formulation, Analytical and Process Chemistry groups. The successful candidate will provide hands on practical support to scientists in the three teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lab Organisation:To own the Inventory management systems, daily equipment calibration and stocking of essential lab consumables.
  • Solution Preparation:Prepare mobile phases for chromatography applications and routinely prepare solutions/mobile phases from a list, following familiar procedures. Prepare simulated fluids, buffers, and vehicles from provided instructions to support preclinical studies.
  • Chemical Management:Transport chemicals on-site, purchase and restock a variety of chemicals, solvents, and consumable items. Place chemical orders for all functions and manage comprehensive and robust inventory.
  • Relationship Building:Build relationships and communicate with supporting site groups (e.g., Safety, Facilities) to enable the job role.
  • Equipment Maintenance:Host engineer visits, become knowledgeable about parts and maintenance for laboratory equipment, place orders for parts and services, maintain stock levels for frequently required parts, and replace failed items. Maintain instrument documentation, including after engineer visits, for traceability purposes.
  • Routine Analysis:Run routine HPLC/UPLC analysis and carry out own experiments and instrument analyses where directed following a period of training and development. Log-in analytical samples

Essential Attributes:
  • Experimental Execution:Execute and support experiments with a high degree of reliability and accurately document work in electronic laboratory notebook
  • Analytical Methods:Execute analytical methods on multiple analytical instruments (e.g., (U)HPLC, GC, KF, NMR, DSC, TGA) to support experimentation.
  • Communication Skills:Use developed interpersonal skills to communicate technical/scientific information and leverage inputs from key partner groups.
  • Team Collaboration:Successfully collaborate within an interdisciplinary scientific team environment comprised of organic chemists, formulators, and analytical chemists.
  • Documentation:Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebooks capturing protocols, results, and observations.
