The psychiatry of learning disability team is an integral part of the Leeds Learning Disability Service, providing mental health input and consultation for adults with a learning disability across Leeds. Children with a learning disability are the responsibility of community paediatric and CAMHS services.
This 10 PA replacement post is part of an established group of consultant psychiatrists within Leeds working with adults with a learning disability. The post is advertised as substantive or with an option for a fixed-term role up to 23 months by agreement. The current medical staff includes 2 WTE core trainees and 3 Specialty Doctors (two x 0.5 WTE and one x 1.0 WTE). The 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor supports the post holder and contributes to the Specialist Health Respite Service. All Specialty Doctors are experienced SAS doctors, with one being a CCT holder. Leeds also has three funded higher specialist trainee posts for psychiatry of learning disability. Applications to be a core or higher trainer will be supported.

This is a 10 PA post plus a 1% category B out-of-hours on-call duty. Benefits include relocation support (up to £8,000), annual leave, on-site parking, cycle-to-work and car leasing schemes, and wellbeing benefits.
We support flexible working arrangements, including condensed hours and considerations for caring responsibilities. Additional PAs for service delivery or other roles (e.g., Clinical Tutor, medical lead) may be available upon enquiry.
Key duties include providing senior medical input into assessments, reviews, liaison, and working within an MDT, primarily based at St Mary’s House in Armley, covering the West and South Leeds areas.
Qualifications (Essential): MBChB, GMC registration, CCT in LD
Experience (Essential): Prior experience in LD psychiatry, interest and experience in teaching LD training
Skills (Essential): MDT working skills and effective communication
