We're Hiring: Information Governance Manager (Deputy DPO)

Type: Permanent, Part-time (0.5 FTE), £35,000 – £40,000 (pro-rata)

Reports to: Director of Client Services (DPO)

Firebird is an established consultancy providing outsourced data protection and information governance services to schools, charities, and commercial clients. We seek a skilled Information Governance Manager (Deputy DPO) to join our team remotely, with flexible hours and opportunities to make a real difference.

What You’ll Do

• Act as Deputy Data Protection Officer for a portfolio of clients.
• Provide practical advice on data protection, privacy, and information governance.
• Lead on data breach responses, SARs, DPIAs, and audits.
• Deliver training, develop policies, and offer strategic guidance.
• Support clients with issues like AI ethics and automation.
• Build strong client relationships and represent Firebird at events and on social media.
• Line manage the Information Governance Officer to ensure service quality.

What You Bring

• 5+ years' experience in data protection advisory roles.
• Recognized qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS Practitioner Certificate).
• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, ICO standards.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to advise at all levels.
• Ability to build trust-based client relationships.
• Awareness of AI and automation ethical considerations.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, capable of working independently and in teams.
• Experience in consultancy or outsourced services in education or commercial sectors.
• Knowledge of school data systems, PECR, overseas data transfers, cybersecurity standards.
