Job description

Scot JCB Group has a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee IT Engineer to join our team in Glasgow.

This role is suitable for someone looking to develop their IT career in a busy and growing team, with a passion for providing excellent service. The successful candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in an IT role or a relevant IT qualification.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm, based at our Dennistoun office.

Who are we?

The Scot JCB Group comprises Scot JCB, Scot Agri, Stewart Plant Sales, and SIA Compressors & Generators.

Scot JCB has been supplying and servicing JCB machinery throughout Scotland and the North of England for over 60 years. We sold our first machine in 1956 and have grown into a highly specialised machinery distribution company with 15 depots from Fraserburgh to Carnforth. We are the largest JCB distributor in the UK, committed to providing world-class service.

Key Duties:

  • Handle 1st Line IT tickets.
  • Set up new employee accounts and hardware.
  • Software installation.
  • Deactivate ex-employee accounts and manage hardware recovery/reset.
  • Develop IT knowledge articles and user guides for applications.
  • Conduct weekly stock checks.
  • Manage device repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Effective Technology:

  • Allocate IT helpdesk tickets to the appropriate team member within SLA timeframes.
  • Resolve 1st Line support tickets promptly.

Reliable Technology:

  • Ensure new employees have software accounts and equipment set up and delivered before their start date.
  • Deactivate accounts of departing employees on the day after they leave.
  • Return devices assigned to leavers within 10 working days.

Secure Technology:

  • Assist with patching and updating employee endpoints.
  • Support remediations identified by SOC or Senior IT Engineer.

Innovative Technology:

  • Participate in IT improvement projects and change requests.
  • Stay updated on latest technological advances.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • At least 1 year of experience in an IT role or a relevant qualification.
  • Good knowledge of Windows 10 and Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of IT networks, cloud technology, and security.
  • Familiarity with modern hardware, including PCs, thin clients, mobile devices, and network infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-IT staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivation to learn and develop a career in IT.
