Job description

About this job

We are seeking an exceptional Manager to lead our Children and Young People with Disability Community Hub.

We emphasize a relationship-based approach to social work, prioritizing children and young people in all our activities.

Location: Dagenham

Our specialist Family Hub for Children with Disabilities is central to our early help services for families caring for children with additional needs. Our vision is for the Hub to be a centre of excellence—where children and their parents/carers feel valued, supported, and encouraged. It is a vibrant space offering group activities, parenting support, drop-in sessions, holiday activities, and a sensory room. We maintain strong partnerships with voluntary sector organizations and aim to expand our short breaks services.

The Hub team comprises Early Intervention Workers who facilitate group activities and manage small caseloads for early help assessments and interventions. Your role will involve managing the team, allocating work, overseeing planning and outcomes, quality assurance, and developing the Hub's services to meet community needs. You will collaborate with multi-agency partners, monitor outcomes, ensure value for money, and produce data-driven reports for senior management. Safeguarding responsibilities include responding to concerns and taking necessary actions to protect children. You will ensure children’s voices are heard and recorded consistently.

The CYPD Family Hub is part of the wider CYPD Service, which includes the Short Breaks Team, Portage Team, and a social work team. You will join the CYPD Service Management Team, providing coverage as needed.

Re-applying information: Applicants who are not shortlisted or unsuccessful at interview cannot reapply for the same role within 6 months, as per our policies. For details, see our Jobs and Career Page under ‘Working for us and Information for Applicants’.

Special requirements: We welcome qualified and experienced candidates. A Social Work degree, completed ASYE, and Social Work England registration are required. The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; a comprehensive screening, including an Enhanced Children’s DBS check, will be conducted.

About you

You are a social work-qualified team manager with significant experience working with children and young people with disabilities. You can manage a busy environment, prioritize effectively, and meet key performance targets.

You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and are confident presenting to senior managers. You understand the challenges faced by children with complex needs and disabilities.

You have experience devising and implementing care packages and short breaks, focusing on the child's lived experience. Budget management experience and a focus on securing value for money are essential.

Ideally, you have managed a Community or Children’s Centre or similar resource, with knowledge of premises management and health and safety. Your role involves liaising with partners within and outside the council to ensure efficient, effective services centered on the best outcomes for children and young people.

About us

We are committed to putting the child’s lived experience at the heart of social work, supported by our relational practice model. Our culture promotes high support, high expectations, and fair challenge.

We seek dedicated individuals to join us in making a difference for children and families. We offer a competitive salary, generous pension and relocation packages, up to 27 days of annual leave, excellent career progression opportunities, investment in learning and development, and a strong focus on wellbeing.
