Job Description:

Within the Wing Plant Engineering Team (PET), we are looking to appoint a Lead Design Engineer to support the Wing Component Delivery Teams (CDTs). The PET's primary function is to provide engineering support to the Broughton Plant and its supply chain, enabling wings to be delivered to the final assembly lines. We identify improvements, undertake investigations, and provide technical solutions via structural & systems modifications for design for cost, rate, and quality improvements.

The successful applicant will be part of a fast-moving team delivering high-quality design solutions by working with manufacturing engineering to meet the needs of our industrial system and maintain the highest levels of product integrity.

About the Role

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a committed individual to develop both their technical and leadership skills in a positive, supportive team environment. You will have opportunities for personal growth and to build a network across the Wing Engineering community, plant production, and support functions. This role provides support to the plant engineering team and the Broughton plant.

  • You will lead design investigations and formulate technical solutions for manufacturing non-conformances and design investigations, ensuring all design, airworthiness, and safety requirements are met. You will liaise with other functions to ensure integrated design solutions where appropriate.
  • You will operate as a lead design engineer and must hold design approval signatory rights, particularly for manufacturing non-conformances (T200). You will also guide and mentor engineering team members on technical issues and governance.
  • A high level of energy is required to drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through methods, processes, and other improvements, maintaining a robust lessons learned and feedback process.
  • Reporting on critical technical issues will be required through functional managers and delivery managers to ensure effective issue management.
  • Developing stakeholder relationships within the wider engineering network is also essential.
  • You should be motivated, self-driven, and capable of working autonomously when needed, while being a strong team player.
  • Reliably deliver on time, cost, and quality, embracing change and challenges as necessary.
  • Possess an anticipation mindset to identify risks and opportunities and manage them appropriately.
  • Understand and synthesize complex activities, simplify, and communicate them clearly and timely to stakeholders.
  • Work in an open, trusting environment and demonstrate resilience.
  • Currently hold or have previously held Concession Design Approval (T200).
