Job description

THE TEAM
At JSM Group, we don’t just deliver power and communication solutions — we build the infrastructure that powers the future. Since 1998, we’ve grown into a high-margin, high-growth business backed by private equity, operating across gas, power, telecoms, and multi-utility frameworks.

What makes us a bit different?
Long-term frameworks and major clients = stability
A commercial team that leads from the front, not just reports the numbers
Clear path to progress into Commercial Manager roles — no red tape
Chartership support and investment in your development
Hybrid working and real work-life balance not just lip service

SCOPE OF ROLE
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll report to our Chief Quantity Surveyor and play a key part in the commercial success of a wide range of civil engineering and utility contracts. You’ll lead both pre- and post-contract work from pricing and tendering through to valuations and final accounts. You’ll manage risk, drive value, and work closely with both operational and leadership teams. It’s a varied role, with a strong commercial voice at the table.

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED
Build and maintain strong subcontractor relationships – negotiating rates, assessing applications, and agreeing variations
Lead on tendering and bid submissions – including pricing, T&Cs, and commercial assessments
Own monthly valuations, applications for payment, and variations control
Produce accurate cost reports and CVRs across multiple high-value contracts
Implement and maintain strong commercial systems and recordkeeping
Proactively identify risks – and take action before they become issues
Collaborate with delivery teams to align commercial and project goals
Mentor junior team members and contribute to a positive team culture

WHAT IT TAKES
Solid experience in civil engineering or utilities (gas is a bonus, not a must)
Strong commercial acumen and end-to-end project experience
Confident in NEC, JCT, and bespoke contracts
Skilled in setting up and managing site-based commercial systems
Hands-on leadership style with a proactive mindset
Comfortable negotiating and solving commercial challenges
Strong communicator with good stakeholder management skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial tools like Envision

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

We truly value your work, time, and skills! In return, we will offer you a competitive salary and some additional benefits to support your professional growth, including:

  • Participation in mentoring and coaching programmes
  • 28 days of holiday (excluding bank holidays)
  • 2 paid volunteering days a year
  • Hybrid working pattern
  • Continuous training and development, in both technical and business skills
