Job Purpose:
To teach all subjects of the national curriculum and extracurricular activities, carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the principal.
Duties:
- Teach pupils of all abilities, including those with additional needs, by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through:
- Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.
- Setting tasks that challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest.
- Differentiating to set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils of all abilities.
- Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment.
- Learning to write provision maps and work with provision maps of pupils with additional needs.
- Leading annual Educational Health Care Plans reviews.
- Working with academically gifted pupils.
- Recognizing that all children are talented and discovering their talents through innovative teaching.
- Providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge.
- Using assessment effectively to ensure coverage of programs of study.
- Maintaining discipline in accordance with school procedures and encouraging good practice regarding punctuality, behavior, standards of work, and homework.
- Using a variety of teaching methods.
- Matching approach to content, structuring information, presenting key ideas, and using appropriate vocabulary.
- Using effective questioning, listening carefully to pupils, and addressing errors and misconceptions.
- Selecting appropriate learning resources and developing study skills through library, IT, and other sources.
- The applicant must have good IT skills.
- Ensuring pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills, and understanding appropriate to the subject taught.
- Accepting constructive reviews to evaluate and improve teaching effectiveness.
- Ensuring the effective deployment of classroom support, considering pupils' needs, and providing structured learning opportunities that develop literacy and numeracy foundations.
- Encouraging pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self-control and independence, concentrate, persevere, and listen attentively.
- Using a variety of teaching strategies involving adult intervention, first-hand experience, play, and talk as learning vehicles.
- Developing rapport with pupils with additional needs.
- Utilizing pupils' interests and humor.
- Using clear, consistent structures and boundaries.
- Being patient and calm, aiming to bring out the best in individuals with additional needs.
- Dealing with physical challenges of the job, including running and physical intervention if necessary.
- Teaching a small class, some of whom have additional needs.
- Using resources to help each student understand and engage.
- Working alongside a mentor to support pupils.
- Planning and delivering effective lessons using the UK curriculum.
- Participating in statutory and online CPD training.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting:
- Assessing learning objectives and using findings to improve teaching.
- Marking and monitoring pupils' work, setting targets for progress.
- Systematically recording pupils' progress, monitoring strengths and weaknesses, informing planning.
- Undertaking assessments as required by examination bodies and school procedures.
- Preparing and presenting reports to parents.
- Participating in planning and organizing school events to promote pupils and the school.
- Having responsibility for primary school subjects and contributing to school development plans.
- Contributing to the whole school development plan.
- Remaining flexible to undertake tasks not specified but related to the role.
