This is an opportunity to bring your electrical, instrumentation and control expertise to a hands‑on role where your decisions directly influence plant reliability, production performance and safe operation.

Working closely with the ICON Shift Lead, you will lead the response to equipment failures, coordinate engineering support and identify improvements that prevent recurring problems.

You will minimise plant downtime by monitoring equipment performance, diagnosing faults, determining repair methods and completing the required maintenance. Alongside responding to breakdowns, you will support plant start‑ups, testing, commissioning and ongoing reliability improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Call out and coordinate additional engineering personnel where required.
  • Monitor asset health, identifying and rectifying defects before they affect production.
  • Provide technical guidance to production teams during start‑ups and major plant disturbances.
  • Carry out functional and evaluation testing on instrument and electrical systems, maintaining accurate quality assurance records.
  • Use plant control systems, including Mod300 and DeltaV, to support fault diagnosis.
  • Maintain clear electronic logs, accurate SAP records and detailed shift handovers.
  • Test and commission new or modified instrument and electrical systems.
  • Apply root cause analysis and recommend improvements to plant stability, uptime and product quality.
What we’re looking for
  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant electrical and instrumentation maintenance experience within chemical, process, manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Experience leading technicians or undertaking maintenance supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong practical knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Proven fault‑finding, testing and commissioning capability.
  • Experience using SAP PM or an equivalent maintenance management system.
  • Sound knowledge of safe systems of work, permit‑to‑work arrangements and statutory compliance requirements.
Desirable experience
  • COMAH site experience.
  • DeltaV, Mod300 or equivalent control systems.
  • Reliability‑centred maintenance.
  • CompEx, HV/LV authorisation or relevant specialist qualifications.
