Job summary

Niche Education Ltd is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a school in Darlington. The successful candidate will support pupils, including those with complex needs, under the guidance of teaching staff.

Applicants should be qualified as a teaching assistant or bring transferable skills from healthcare or another sector. Strong behaviour management, resilience, and excellent communication are essential, with safeguarding and DBS checks conducted for all staff.

Qualifications

• Be a qualified teaching assistant or have transferable skills
• Have worked with children or young adults before, possibly including those with SEND
• Be able to engage with children or young adults and enforce positive behaviour
• Be able to challenge children or young adults when they display negative behaviour
• Be able to build a strong, respectful rapport with children or young adults, including those with SEND
• Be resilient and able to remain calm under stressful situations
• Have exceptionally good communication skills
• Be responsive, flexible, and sensitive to the differing needs of pupils

Responsibilities

• Support students in the classroom, including those with complex needs
• Assist teaching staff and contribute to a positive learning environment
• Help manage behaviour and encourage independence among pupils
• Contribute to safeguarding and DBS processes as required
