Job summary

Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Sonographer to perform a wide range of ultrasound scans—renal, abdominal, DVT Doppler and small parts—excluding maternity. You will scan, independently report, and provide written reports to the referring clinician within a supportive team.

The role includes involvement in research, audits and quality control, with opportunities to upskill into new protocols and to contribute to training of registrars, trainee staff and RDAs.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in ultrasound scanning across renal, abdominal, DVT Doppler and small parts.
• Ability to vet and protocolise ultrasound requests per department protocols.
• Respond to referrer clinical queries regarding referrals or reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound scans and independently report own workload.
• Provide written reports to referring clinicians.
• Participate in research, audits and quality control as part of the team.
• Upskill into new scan protocols as required (e.g., hernia scans).
• Assist teaching of registrars/trainee ultrasound staff and training of RDAs.
• Support updating of local ultrasound documentation and basic equipment QA.
