Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a methodical Science Technician for a busy Science department in a Birmingham secondary school and sixth form. You will prepare chemical solutions, assemble equipment for biology, chemistry and physics practicals, maintain lab safety to COSHH/CLEAPSS standards, and support staff across Key Stages 3–5 in a hands-on teaching environment.

Qualifications

Qualified to A-Level or equivalent in a scientific discipline or NVQ Level 2/3 in Laboratory and Technical Skills.
Experience as a technician in a secondary school, college, or commercial laboratory is preferred.
Solid knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPSS safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment, chemical solutions, specimens, and apparatus for practical demonstrations and student experiments across all key stages.
Ensure COSHH and CLEAPSS compliance and carry out routine risk assessments and manage hazardous waste disposal safely.
Monitor stock levels of chemicals, glassware, and consumables, logging orders, receiving deliveries, and maintaining organized stores and equipment inventory.
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, balances, microscopes, and Bunsen burner systems, reporting faults promptly.
Support teaching staff during practical lessons and assist with demonstrations and safe working environments.
