Job summary

Equity Accounting is seeking an Accountant with at least 2 years of UK practice experience to manage bookkeeping, VAT, year-end accounts and taxation for a diverse client base. The role requires strong client management, independence and a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach.

You will work from the office in Durham DH1 5HL five days a week, handling deadlines and liaising with HMRC as needed. AAT Level 3 or equivalent is preferred, with proficiency in Excel and cloud accounting software.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• AAT Level 3 or above or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of the UK tax system and HMRC guidance.
• Proficiency with Excel and IT systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Complete monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations using cloud-based software.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns including MTD compliance.
• Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
• Review accounting data, identify issues, and raise queries.
• Provide clients with tax advice per HMRC guidance and current legislation.
• Manage client queries promptly and organise workload to meet deadlines.
