Responsibilities

  • Maintain consumables, workshop tools, PPE to support lessons.
  • Lead health and safety compliance and records.
  • Keep health and safety documentation up to date.
  • Carry out equipment checks and servicing.
  • Carry out minor repairs or replacements to tools.
  • Construct jigs, moulds, fittings for teaching.
  • Provide technical support to teaching staff during lessons.
  • Manage stock levels and deliveries.
  • Assist with technology displays and promote DT.

FTE Salary: £27,275 - £28,154

Actual Salary: £8,852 - £9,137

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and organised DT Technician to support the Design & Technology department. This role is essential to the effective delivery of practical lessons, ensuring resources, materials and equipment are prepared, safe, and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and monitor consumables, workshop tools, equipment and PPE within the Design & Technology department to ensure students can access a wide range of materials and processes
  • Lead the department on all aspects of health and safety, ensuring full compliance at all times
  • Maintain up-to-date health and safety documentation, including paperwork, training records, machine servicing and safety checks
  • Undertake required health and safety training and carry out regular health and safety equipment checks across all Technology rooms
  • Maintain machinery and equipment in line with health and safety requirements, carrying out minor repairs or replacements to tools, electronics equipment and machines as necessary
  • Construct small jigs, moulds and fittings to support practical teaching and learning
  • Provide technical support to teaching staff during lessons and practical activities, responding flexibly to departmental needs
  • Maintain and monitor stock levels, including ordering materials and equipment and receiving and checking deliveries
  • Support staff with practical projects as demands arise
  • Assist with the production and updating of Technology displays
  • Support staff in promoting and raising the profile of Design & Technology within and beyond the school
  • Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role, as requested by the Head of Department
What We Are Looking For
  • Experience working in a practical or workshop-based environment (education desirable but not essential)
  • Strong awareness of health and safety procedures, particularly in a DT setting
  • Practical skills and confidence working with tools, machinery and materials
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently
  • A positive, flexible and team-orientated approach
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
