Job summary

Cambourne Village College is seeking a Design Technology/Food Technician to support the DT and Food Technology departments. You will prepare tools, equipment and materials for lessons, maintain resources, and assist with practical activities to ensure safe, well-equipped learning spaces.

Applicants should have strong organisational skills, good ICT proficiency, and be a reliable team player who can work with staff and students. Training will be provided where needed.

Job description

Are you practical, organised and passionate about supporting students in a busy school environment? Cambourne Village College is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Design Technology/Food Technician to join our thriving DT department. In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide vital technical support across both Design Technology and Food Technology, helping to create engaging and safe learning experiences for our students.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will prepare tools, equipment, ingredients and materials for lessons, maintain resources and inventories, support practical classroom activities, and ensure that workshops and teaching spaces are safe, organised and well-equipped. You will also play a key role in promoting and monitoring health and safety procedures, carrying out risk assessments, maintaining equipment and supporting departmental displays and enrichment activities.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, strong ICT skills, and the ability to manage resources effectively. You will be a flexible team player with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and the ability to build positive relationships with both students and staff. Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within an educational setting, would be beneficial, although full training will be provided.

Salary: NJC Scale 3, points 5 to 6 (£25,583 to £25,989 per annum FTE - pay award pending). Actual salary £21,942.34 per annum on point 5 based on 37 hours per week.

Contract: Permanent. 37 hours per week Monday to Thursday 08.00 to 16.00 and Friday 08.00 to 15.30. Job shares considered. Term time plus 5 training days (39 weeks per year).
