Empowering Learning Ltd. is seeking a Design & Technology Technician in Leeds to support a busy secondary school with practical activities. The role focuses on keeping the workshop safe, well-equipped and ready for lessons, assisting teachers and students as needed.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on workshop experience in engineering or D&T, with familiarity in tools and materials, and a strong commitment to health and safety in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a workshop, engineering or D&T environment.
• Willingness to support practical lessons and teaching staff.
• Ability to maintain a safe, well-organised workshop.
• Experience with woodwork, metalwork, CAD/CAM, 3D printing or CNC machinery.

Responsibilities

• Preparing materials, tools and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
• Providing practical and technical support to teaching staff during lessons.
• Maintaining workshops, classrooms and equipment to a high standard.
• Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and equipment.
• Supporting safe use of machinery, tools and workshop equipment.
• Monitoring stock levels and ordering materials when required.
• Assisting with prep and production of resources and student projects.
• Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.

Design & Technology Technician

Location: Leeds

Salary: £110-£140 per day

Contract: Temporary

Hours: 37

Start Date: 2nd November

We are currently recruiting for a Design & Technology Technician to join a welcoming secondary school and provide essential technical and practical support to the Design & Technology department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical, hands-on background who enjoys working in a school environment and supporting students and teaching staff.

The Role

As a Design & Technology Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff to ensure the department is fully prepared and equipped for practical lessons. You will help maintain a safe, organised and well-resourced workshop environment and support the smooth delivery of practical activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing materials, tools and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
• Providing practical and technical support to teaching staff during lessons.
• Ensuring workshops, classrooms and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
• Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and equipment.
• Supporting the safe use of machinery, tools and workshop equipment.
• Monitoring stock levels and ordering materials and resources when required.
• Assisting with the preparation and production of resources and student projects.
• Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
• Supporting teachers and students with practical projects where appropriate.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience in a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, construction, carpentry, joinery or Design & Technology environment.

School experience would be advantageous but is not essential for the right candidate.
