A highly regarded 'Outstanding' secondary school in Maidstone is looking to appoint a talented Design Technology Technician to join its thriving DT department. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of a well-resourced department and play a key role in supporting students with practical and creative learning.
Working alongside experienced DT teachers, you will help ensure the department operates safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for preparing practical lessons, maintaining workshop equipment and providing hands-on support to students during lessons.
The school has excellent workshop facilities and modern CAD/CAM equipment, providing an ideal environment for someone who enjoys working with a wide range of materials, machinery and practical technologies.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Preparing timber, metals, acrylics, plastics, tools and other materials for practical lessons.
Setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for KS3, GCSE and A-Level lessons.
Maintaining and checking workshop machinery, including band saws, pillar drills, sanders, 3D printers and laser cutters.
Supporting students and teachers during practical sessions.
Ensuring all workshop activities are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.
Managing stock, ordering materials and keeping equipment and resources organised.
Completing routine maintenance and safety checks.
Helping to maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop environment.
This school would ideally like to appoint someone who has previous experience as a DT Technician, although applications are also welcomed from candidates with relevant practical experience in areas such as:
Carpentry | Engineering | Product Design | Manufacturing | Construction | Workshop-Based Roles
You should have a good understanding of workshop tools and machinery, be confident working independently and have a naturally practical and proactive approach.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM, 2D Design, SolidWorks, 3D printing or laser cutting would be an advantage, although training may be available for the right candidate.
