DT Technician

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 28.8 hours a week over 4 days, term time only (including 8 staff training days), plus 10 additional days, worked through extended hours during term time.

Salary: Starting is GDST Regional Grade 3 £27,987 (FTE 0.67 Actual Salary £18,751.29)

Working across a distinctive school community combining Grade II listed buildings, modern facilities and a vibrant co-curricular programme, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of Design and Technology education at Royal High Bath. As DT Technician, you will ensure that workshops, machinery, equipment and materials are prepared, maintained and organised to the highest standards, enabling staff and students to work safely, effectively and creatively.

This is a varied, hands-on role involving the preparation of materials and resources for lessons, practical assessments and enrichment activities, maintenance of specialist machinery and workshop equipment, stock control and ordering, and the day-to-day organisation of workshop spaces. You will work closely with teachers and students, providing technical support during practical lessons, helping students develop their project work, and contributing to exhibitions, displays and wider departmental activities.

You will play an important role in maintaining the department's specialist facilities, ensuring machinery, tools and equipment are serviced, tested and compliant with health and safety requirements. You will help maintain a safe and inspiring learning environment, supporting the school's commitment to high quality teaching, creativity and innovation.

You will bring strong organisational skills, practical aptitude and a commitment to safe working practices. Experience of working with workshop machinery, tools, materials and technical equipment is essential, together with the ability to manage resources efficiently and work collaboratively as part of a busy department. Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a workshop environment, including risk assessment and machinery maintenance, would be highly advantageous.

Experience within education would be welcome, but we are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable skills from engineering, manufacturing, construction, product design, fabrication, workshop environments or other technical fields.

This role could particularly suit an experienced Workshop Technician, Engineering Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Fabrication Technician, Product Design Technician or a skilled crafts person looking to apply their technical expertise within a school environment where they can have a meaningful impact on students' learning and development.
