Job summary

Bedford Girls' School is seeking a proactive D&T Technician to support the Design Technology department. The role involves maintaining workshop equipment, preparing materials, and assisting with lessons and displays.

You will help students, support stage/set construction for performances, and share guidance on materials and CAD software. Term-time hours are 25 per week with salary details provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for theatre technician in set and prop construction for productions.
  • Offer technical guidance on materials, CAD software, and manufacturing techniques.

The Role:

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated D & T Technician to join our thriving Design Technology department. Your role will consist of the following:

  • Assist with the smooth running of the department including daily care, organisation and maintenance of workshop machinery and workshop tools, ensuring rooms are checked as requested by staff, disposing of unwanted items and rubbish, labelling resources, unpacking deliveries and maintaining order in the store cupboards.
  • Assist staff with the preparation of lessons, preparing, cutting and organising DT materials, and making prototypes.
  • Assist staff and students with students' work including photocopying work, arranging displays, photographing students' work for the school magazine, website and display board, and preparing work for moderation.
  • To provide additional support for the Theatre Technician in the construction of sets and props for school productions and examination performances at specific points in the academic year
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to students across a range of materials, processes and technologies, including timber, polymers, CAD software, and both traditional and modern manufacturing techniques.

  • You will have a good knowledge of workshop machinery as you will be required to prepare materials and equipment required for the lessons and after school clubs.
