Role: Drivers Assistant (Self-Employed)

Hours: Full-Time & Weekends (Monday to Saturday)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Ongoing

Location: Edinburgh Collections, Removals, & Deliveries

Overview:

We are seeking a reliable, physically fit, and customer-focused Driver's Assistant / Drivers Mate to support our delivery operations. This role involves helping us deliver donated goods, furniture, and store stock safely and professionally as part of our charity’s collection and delivery service.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist the driver in loading and unloading goods, including furniture and large household items.
  2. Carry out collections and deliveries to and from donors' homes, charity shops, and warehouses.
  3. Navigate and guide the driver on routes and help maintain efficient schedules.
  4. Handle all goods with care and attention.
  5. Provide excellent customer service, including contacting customers before arrival and assisting with loading/unloading.
  6. Help with recycling, waste collection, and house removals as needed.
  7. Maintain a clean and safe working environment inside and outside the vehicle.
  8. Assist in lifting, moving, and placing items safely with proper manual handling practices.
Key Requirements:
  1. Right to work in the UK and ability to pass a criminal record check.
  2. Confident in using GPS/maps and planning routes.
  3. Good communication and customer service skills.
  4. Physically fit to lift and move items.
  5. Reliable, trustworthy, and well-organized.
  6. Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge (e.g., oil, tyres, fuel).
  7. Availability for full-time work, including weekends.
  8. Friendly, self-motivated, and a team player with a community-minded attitude.
  9. Previous experience in similar roles (e.g., removals, delivery, warehousing) is desirable but not essential.
  10. Comfortable working outdoors and in varied conditions.
  11. Have safety footwear and a hi-viz.
