Job summary

Pollock Scotrans Ltd are seeking a Driver Training Officer to develop driver capability, safety and compliance across sites. You will deliver inductions, development programmes and CPC training, while coaching Depot Development Coaches and maintaining training records.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid UK Class 1 CE Licence and a minimum of 3 years' driving experience.
• Willingness to travel between sites to support multiple locations.
• Strong knowledge of driver safety, compliance and training best practice.
• Excellent coaching, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with drivers, managers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver proactive driver training interventions in line with Group Policies.
• Deliver local driver inductions, development programmes, and CPC training.
• Delegate training to depot-based Driver Development Coaches (DDCs).
• Maintain adequate DDC coverage and provide training delivery when needed.
• Collaborate with operational management and the Learning & Development team.
• Deliver remote Driver CPC courses annually and support CPC training weeks.
• Deliver Driver Smart 360 CPC programme throughout the year.
• Ensure CPC courses comply with centre standards and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to updating training materials and programmes.
• Keep accurate driver training records and CPD up to date.
• Attend Driver Training CPD events and familiarisation sessions.
• Complete the Driver Training Officer Development Programme and related training.

As a Driver Training Officer, you will develop driver capability, compliance, and safety across the business by delivering effective training programmes, supporting operational teams, and driving continuous improvement in driver performance and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver proactive driver training interventions in accordance with Group Policies and Processes.
• Deliver local driver inductions, driver development programmes, skills training, Potential New Driver (PND) assessments, Long Semi-Trailer (LST) training, manual handling training, and vehicle familiarisation sessions.
• Delegate appropriate training activities to depot-based Driver Development Coaches (DDCs).
• Support the business in maintaining sufficient Driver Development Coach coverage across all depots and provide training delivery where Driver Development Coach resource is unavailable.
• Build strong working relationships with operational management teams and collaborate closely with the central Learning & Development department.
• Deliver remote Driver CPC courses annually from January to April and support planned Driver CPC training weeks, providing full-week CPC course delivery as required.
• Deliver the Driver Smart 360 CPC programme throughout the year.
• Deliver approved Driver CPC courses in accordance with Driver CPC Centre standards and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to the review, development, enhancement, and continuous improvement of driver training materials and programmes.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and auditable driver training records in line with company policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional competence through ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
• Attend annual Driver Training Continuous Professional Development events and CPC course familiarisation sessions.
• Successfully complete the Driver Training Officer Development Programme, including the PRIM Fleet Assessor, IOSH Managing Safely, Manual Handling Instructor, Level 3 Award in Education and Training, First Aid at Work, and all relevant SSOW and induction training.

Requirements

• Must hold a valid UK Class 1 CE Licence, with a minimum of 3 years' driving experience and a clean driving record (no more than 3 penalty points).
• Willingness to adapt to changing schedules and travel as required to support multiple sites.
• Strong knowledge of driver safety, compliance, and training best practice.
• Excellent coaching, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with drivers, managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Competent in using IT systems for training records, reporting, and compliance tracking.
