Job summary

Orkney Islands Council in Kirkwall is offering a Permanent Driver / Roadworker 2 role with a 37-hour week and standard shifts from Monday to Friday. The job includes winter maintenance duties and a requirement to participate in standby rotas outside normal hours.

The position reports to the Team Manager, Roads and Grounds Operations. A Level 1 Disclosure check is required, and applications close on 15 November 2026. Salary includes Distant Islands Allowance.

The above amounts include Distant Islands Allowance

You will be reporting to the Team Manager, Roads and Grounds Operations.

Your working pattern is Monday - Thursday 8.00am - 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.

The purpose of this role is to undertake a range of roads and municipal related activities. This will include the delivery of the Councils winter maintenance service which will involve working in all weather conditions.

This post involves a contractual requirement to:
