Job summary

Pertemps is recruiting for a Driver / Production Assistant to join a Redhill-based team. This full-time role combines driving duties with hands-on workshop support in a sheet metal environment, offering variety and long-term stability.

You will predominantly drive within London and home counties, with occasional longer trips, and assist fabricators with loading, unloading and material handling. A positive, reliable team player is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a confident, professional van/ commercial driver.
• FORS scheme training/certification is advantageous.
• Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or sheet metal environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Driving and delivering materials, parts, and finished products to/from suppliers and clients.
• Occasional long-distance trips; mainly within London and surrounding home counties.
• Assisting fabricators with machine loading, material handling, and keeping a clean, safe workshop.

Job Title: Driver / Production Assistant

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Position Type: Full-time, Permanent (will consider part time 3 or 4 days a week)

About the Role

My client is an established sheet metal fabrication company based in Redhill looking for an experienced, reliable, and confident Driver / Production Assistant to join their team for a long-term, steady position.

This role is primarily focused on driving and deliveries, but offers variety through hands‑on involvement in the workshop during quieter driving periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Driving & Logistics:
  • Transporting materials, parts, and finished products to/from suppliers, plating/powder coating specialists, and clients.
  • Mostly driving within London and the surrounding home counties (normally less that 8 drops), with occasional long-distance trips (e.g., Cambridge or Manchester).
  • Ensuring safe loading, securing, and unloading of goods.
• Production & Workshop Support (when not driving):
  • Assisting fabricators with machine loading and material handling.
  • Deburring metal edges, separating cut metal plates, and moving stock.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized factory environment and being a team player.

Requirements & Qualifications

• License & Insurance:
  • Full UK Driving License with no more than 3 points.
  • Must be aged 25 or over (required for commercial vehicle insurance purposes).
• Experience & Skills:
  • Proven experience as a confident, professional van/commercial driver.
  • FORS scheme training/certification is highly advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or sheet metal environment is a plus.
