Job summary

Medirest (Compass Group UK&I) is recruiting a Domestics Team Leader to uphold NHS cleaning standards and health and safety across hospital facilities. You will supervise a team of cleaners, manage schedules, and ensure high-quality cleaning and infection control in a demanding healthcare environment.

This full-time role requires strong leadership, planning, and communication skills, plus IT literacy to maintain records, training staff, and coordinating with the Infection Control Team.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising cleaning or facilities teams, preferably in healthcare.
  • Strong knowledge of NHS cleaning standards and infection control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with hospital staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of cleaning staff, providing guidance, motivation, and performance feedback.
  • Develop team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage across shifts.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on NHS cleaning standards, infection control, health and safety, and equipment use.
  • Monitor adherence to procedures and identify training or improvement needs.
  • Ensure cleaning tasks meet NHS standards and hospital policies.
  • Conduct daily inspections and address issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with Infection Control to ensure compliant practices.
  • Maintain records of inspections, audits and corrective actions.
  • Manage allocation and use of materials, equipment and PPE for cost-effective operations.
  • Implement efficient workflows for urgent cleaning requests, especially in high-risk areas.
  • Act as a key contact between cleaning team, nursing staff and hospital departments.
  • Communicate protocol changes and NHS guidelines to the team.
  • Provide updates to Cleaning Manager and escalate issues needing management support.
  • Deliver Health and Safety policy and standards.

Job description

We're currently recruiting a dedicated Domestics Team Leader. The role requires maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in line with NHS cleaning standards and ensuring the health and safety of all patients, staff, and visitors. The Team Leader will oversee a team of cleaning staff, manage scheduling, ensure compliance with infection control policies, and uphold operational efficiency in Healthcare on a full time basis, contracted to 40 hours per week.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise a team of cleaning staff, providing guidance, motivation, and performance feedback.
  • Develop team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage across shifts to meet the hospital’s needs.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for staff on NHS cleaning standards, infection control, health and safety, and cleaning equipment use.
  • Monitor team adherence to established procedures and standards, identifying training or improvement needs.
  • Ensure all cleaning tasks are performed according to NHS cleaning standards and hospital policies.
  • Conduct daily inspections to verify cleanliness levels, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with the Infection Control Team to ensure all cleaning practices comply with infection control guidelines.
  • Maintain records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions for quality assurance purposes.
  • Manage the allocation and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and PPE to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Implement efficient workflows to ensure prompt responses to urgent cleaning requests, particularly in high-risk and critical care areas.
  • Act as the a key point of contact between the cleaning team, nursing staff, and other hospital departments.
  • Communicate any changes in cleaning protocols, schedules, or NHS guidelines to the team.
  • Provide regular updates to the Cleaning Manager, raising any issues that require management support or intervention.
  • To deliver Health and Safety policy and standards.
Our ideal Domestics Team Leader will:
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within cleaning or facilities management, ideally in a healthcare setting.
  • An understanding of NHS cleaning standards and infection control requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team and liaise with hospital staff.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to cleaning in a healthcare environment
  • At least 3 years operational experience of managing in at least one functional area with experience of working in a managing a multi-service operation.
