Job summary

Hackajob Ltd is recruiting a Domain Data Modeller for Southern Water, with hybrid work requiring two days per week in the office at Durrington or Falmer.   • We have proven experience in domain or enterprise data modelling on large-scale data platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, metadata management and data governance.
  • Experience with data modelling tools such as Erwin.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Azure Data Lake and Databricks.
  • Familiarity with data cataloguing and lineage tools such as Microsoft Purview.
  • Strong SQL skills and relational and dimensional modelling.
  • Ability to translate complex business concepts into clear data structures.
  • Experience in agile delivery environments (Jira/Confluence).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple modelling activities across domains.
  • Hands-on experience delivering gold-layer data products in Databricks or similar.
  • Understanding of business processes, information flows and source systems into models.
  • Experience in systems and database design (relational/dimensional).
  • Collaborative with data engineers, analysts and stakeholders; able to influence across teams.
  • Databricks experience with SQL and Python.
  • Strong communication with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Understanding of data quality, governance, privacy principles in models.
  • Desirable: degree in CS/IS/Data Science; CDMP or Azure Data Engineering certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models by business domain.
  • Maintain enterprise data catalogue with metadata, lineage and definitions.
  • Translate requirements into clear data models with Product Owners and delivery teams.
  • Contribute to solution architecture for scalable, long-term data strategy.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to validate models against pipelines and data samples.
  • Produce high-quality model documentation for analytics.
  • Maintain modelling standards across squads.
  • Apply change management for consistency and traceability of models.
  • Support governance and metadata management using modelling tools.
  • Capture domain knowledge and model documentation; engage with architects and SMEs.
  • Manage modelling work within agile backlogs; participate in ceremonies.

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

  • We need experience collaborating with data engineers, analysts and business stakeholders, and the ability to influence and build relationships across technical teams, architects, Product Owners and business stakeholders.

  • We require hands-on Databricks experience, including SQL and Python.

  • We need strong communication skills and experience working with technical and business stakeholders.

  • We require understanding of data quality, classification, privacy and governance principles, with the ability to embed them into model design.

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or a related discipline is desirable.

  • Experience applying data quality, governance, metadata, lineage, security and privacy principles to BI and analytical solutions is desirable.

  • Relevant certifications such as CDMP or Microsoft Azure Data Engineering certifications are desirable.


Responsibilities:


  • We design, implement and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models aligned to business domains.

  • We maintain and enhance the enterprise data catalogue, ensuring metadata, lineage and business definitions remain accurate and trusted.

  • We translate business requirements into clear, well-structured data models in collaboration with Product Owners, Technical Lead and delivery teams.

  • We contribute to solution architecture discussions, ensuring data models support scalability and long-term strategy.

  • We work closely with Data Engineers to validate models against ingestion pipelines and sample data.

  • We provide high-quality model documentation to support downstream development and analytics.

  • We maintain data modelling standards and best practices across squads.

  • We apply change management principles to ensure consistency and traceability of model changes.

  • We support governance and metadata management using recognised data modelling tools.

  • We capture and maintain domain knowledge and model documentation.

  • We engage with architects, SMEs, governance and compliance teams as needed.

  • We manage and contribute to modelling work within the squads agile backlog.

  • We actively participate in agile ceremonies, backlog refinement and sprint planning.

We are partnering directly with Southern Water to hire a Domain Data Modeller for our Durrington (Worthing) or Falmer (Brighton) offices, with hybrid working requiring two days per week in the office. This is a permanent role working 37 hours per week with a competitive salary and benefits.
