Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Elgin is seeking a Document Controller to establish governance and manage BIM 360 Docs data flows across project teams. Hybrid role with 3 days on site and 2 days from home.

You will train staff on BIM360, support project information plans, and ensure compliant information exchanges within the common data environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work to project information plans and asset information plans at startup.
  • Assist with BIM 360 NextGen project setup (folders, rights, workflows).
  • Support rollout of BIM 360 to new projects and deliver training visits.
  • Assist Document Control Manager with BIM360 implementation and ongoing use.
  • Help project team assemble information for outputs and reporting.
  • Enable reliable information exchange through a common data environment.
  • Coordinate information within the Information Model for integration.
  • Ensure delivery of information exchanges and compliance with processes.
  • Accept/reject information exchanges and flag non-compliance.
  • Liaise with project team members and Employer to foster collaboration.

About The Role

Location: Elgin – Hybrid working: 3 days on site at Elgin office and 2 days working from home.

By joining our Power Transmission and Distribution team as a Document Controller you will be responsible for establishing governance and ensuring data and information flow to and from Balfour Beatty (BIM 360 Docs), client common data environments, and subcontractor systems. You will play a key role in providing project‑related training, support and guidance on using BIM360 to the project engineering team, including subcontractors, the client and designers. The Document Controller will liaise with the DE Manager on BIM360 project‑level quality audit implementation, operation and record keeping for their project on BIM 360 reports and Power BI Dashboards.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Work to the Project Information Plan and Asset Information Plan set out at project start‑up (IM will be identified at this stage).
  • Assist with the set‑up of projects in BIM 360 NextGen (folders, user rights, workflows).
  • Assist the Information Manager with the roll‑out of BIM 360 to newly identified projects and complete support training and visits.
  • Assist the Document Control manager with implementation and ongoing use of BIM360 on the project(s).
  • Assist Project Team Members in assembling information for Project Outputs and reporting.
  • Enable reliable information exchange through a common data environment.
  • Enable integration and co‑ordination of information within the Information Model.
  • Assure delivery of information exchanges.
  • Accept/reject information exchanges within the common data environment – ensure compliance with agreed processes and procedures. Validate compliance with information requirements and advise on non‑compliance.
  • Liaise with and cooperate with Project Team Members and the Employer in support of a collaborative working culture.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Experience using BIM 360 Docs.
  • Experience and understanding of site‑based operational business processes and practices, knowledge of engineering applications and their associated data structures.
  • An awareness of the utilities, power, and construction industry.
