Job summary

Central Surgery in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a part-time receptionist/Care Navigator to support the daily running of the GP practice. Hours are 15–25 per week on a rota, between 8:00am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday, with a mix of morning and afternoon shifts.

You will work in a busy team handling patient queries, bookings, messages, and liaising with clinicians. Prior System One and GP reception experience is essential.

Qualifications

  • GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment and prioritise workload.
  • Flexible to work a mixture of morning and afternoon shifts.
  • Experience of using Anima or another online consultation/triage system.

Responsibilities

  • Face to face and telephone communication with patients and external contacts, booking appointments, dealing with patients queries, taking messages, liaising with doctors, nurses and administrative staff.
  • A wide range of administrative support tasks, including scanning documents, processing prescriptions, using our online triage system and general admin duties as required.
  • Receive, assist and direct patients accessing practice services, including use of the online triage system (Anima).
  • Manage incoming telephone calls, handling enquiries courteously and efficiently.
  • Book, amend and cancel appointments in accordance with practice procedures.
  • Register new patients and process temporary resident requests.
  • Signpost patients to the most appropriate service or healthcare professional.
  • Process prescription requests in line with practice protocols.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic information as required.
  • Process incoming clinical correspondence and undertake general administrative duties.
  • Handle patient enquiries both face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Take accurate messages and ensure they are passed promptly to the appropriate team member.
  • Support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, administrative staff and external healthcare organisations.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Partners or Practice Manager.

Job description

About us

We are a medium sized surgery looking after approximately 8000 patients, with a clinical team of GPs, Nurses and Associate Practitioners. We have a dedicated and supportive team of receptionists, secretaries and administrators who you will be working alongside on a daily basis.
