Job summary

Manpower UK is recruiting a reliable Multi-Skilled Dock Operative / Stevedore for busy port operations in Scunthorpe. The role involves cargo handling across vessels, quaysides, terminals and storage facilities, with emphasis on safe, efficient movement of cargo and vessel turnaround.

Key tasks include directing crane operators, coordinating cargo handling, and complying with health and safety procedures. CHIPS qualification training is available, with flexible shifts 6am–10pm and overtime

Qualifications

• Previous experience in stevedoring, port or cargo handling essential.
• Physically demanding role requiring manual handling and teamwork.
• Willingness to undertake CHIPS qualification and training as required.
• Commitment to following health and safety procedures in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Work within vessel holds during cargo loading and discharge with oversight of cargo movements.
• Direct crane operators using hand signals and radio communications for accurate loading.
• Coordinate cargo handling, allocate work, and ensure safe, efficient completion.
• Liaise with supervisors, vessel crews and dockside teams to meet cargo plans.
• Follow safety procedures and operational plans, ensuring compliance.
• Perform shore-side cargo handling across quaysides, terminals and yard areas.
• Assist with loading, unloading, transfer, securing and storage of cargo.
• Support cargo movement between vessels, warehouses and onward transport.
• Undertake general dockside labouring as required.
