Job description

A highly regarded, Legal 500-ranked law firm with an established presence across the North East is seeking a Senior Family Lawyer to join its experienced Family Law team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Family Solicitor within a well-respected department recognised by both The Legal 500 and Chambers UK for its expertise in complex family law matters. With a longstanding reputation, the firm combines technical legal excellence with a supportive, people-focused culture and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

The successful Family Lawyer will advise and represent clients across a broad range of complex matters, including international children disputes, domestic abuse, high-net-worth financial remedies and intricate financial arrangements involving businesses, trusts and pensions. Alongside managing a high-quality caseload, the role will involve mentoring junior colleagues, developing referral relationships and contributing to the department's wider growth strategy.

The role will include:
  • Managing a full caseload of complex private law children and financial remedy matters, including international relocation of children, modern family arrangements, domestic abuse cases and high-net-worth divorce.

  • Advising on complex financial matters involving business valuations, multi-jurisdictional assets, pensions, trusts and nuptial agreements.

  • Overseeing complex family law cases from inception to resolution, ensuring exceptional standards of legal advice, client care and service delivery.

  • Representing clients in family court proceedings, drafting legal documents, preparing cases and working closely with Counsel on complex and contentious matters.

  • Supporting clients through sensitive and challenging circumstances, providing clear, strategic and commercially aware advice tailored to their individual needs.

  • Mentoring and developing junior solicitors and support staff, fostering a collaborative, supportive and high-performing team environment.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, professional referrers and key industry stakeholders to support the continued growth of the department.

  • Contributing to business development initiatives and the implementation of the firm's wider growth strategy.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent legal professional with significant post-qualification experience in family law.

  • Have a proven track record of managing complex family law cases, particularly high-net-worth financial remedy matters.

  • Possess strong technical knowledge of private law children matters, financial provision and relevant family law legislation.

  • Have experience handling complex financial arrangements involving business assets, pensions, trusts and nuptial agreements.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring colleagues, developing teams and promoting a collaborative working environment.

  • Have excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients and colleagues.

  • Be commercially aware, with experience in business development and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for growth.

In return, our client is offering an excellent benefits package and the opportunity to join a highly regarded, Legal 500-ranked firm with a strong regional reputation and a well-established commitment to professional excellence. The successful candidate will benefit from an engaging and supportive culture, the opportunity to take on a pivotal leadership role, and the chance to contribute to the continued growth of a Family Law team recognised by leading legal directories for its expertise in complex financial and children matters.
